Paratext 7 New User Tips & Fixes #1

Greetings,

Here are few important items to know when making the transition to Paratext 7:

  • If Paratext 7 is very slow when you edit in a window or go to a new book: Check the menu item View > By Chapter. If this is not checked all editing or going to a new book will be quite slow since we have to update the display of the entire book instead of just a single chapter. Click the menu item to switch to viewing/editing a single chapter at a time.
  • Using File > Send/Receive to Backup your data: It would NOT be wise if you used Send/Receive as your ONLY backup mechanism. For the first few months it is OK to use this as one backup method (either to the Internet or to a USB key) but until things have gone smoothly with this for an extended period of time you should continue to use File/Backup to make copies of your project.

  • Continuing use of Paratext 6.1: Our goal is to allow P6.1 and P7 to both remain operational on the same machine. We are currently working on some problems that are for some people stopping P6.1 from working after P7 is installed.

If continuing use of P6.1 is important to you it might be a good idea to wait until you see an announcement on this list that we have resolved all these problems before installing P7. If you have already installed P7 and need to get P6.1 going again normally this can be done by uninstalling and reinstalling P6.1 (you will need your P6.1 registration code to do this).

We are currently working to catch up with the effects of almost 600 people wanting to switch to P7 at the same time. Your patience and prayers would be greatly appreciated.

Blessings,
Nathan Miles
