Paratext 7 New User Tips & Fixes #2

Greetings,

If Paratext 6.1 crashes on startup after Paratext 7 is installed

  • Go to http://paratext.ubs-translations.org
  • Enter your Paratext website user Id and password.
  • Click on Downloads > Paratext button at top of screen.
  • Click on Service Pack 1f Update and download the file. Unzip the file on your system and then double click on the PT6.1.106-Update.PUD file to install it.

IF PARATEXT 6.1 STILL DOES NOT START ON YOUR MACHINE AFTER DOING THIS:

  • Please send an email to pt7@ubs-icap.org stating:
    • The exact error message you get on startup
    • What operating system you are running
    • Whether or not you have internet access (so that I could use our remote support to tool to investigate what is happening on your machine), and what time zone you are in.
    • Your Skype Id, if you have one so I can contact you for details.

I can't figure out how to do something in P7. What do I do now?

Try:

  1. Support > Learning Center > Paratext 7 Video Tutorials. There are videos on What's New, Editing, Project Notes, Project Sharing, Project Progress Tracking, Checking, Biblical Terms, and Integrated Source (Greek/Hebrew) Language Tools.
  2. In Paratext click Help > Browse Help and enter a word related to your question. If nothing matches try any other words you can think of. If none of the words you enter generate anything useful please send your question AND the list of words you used to try to get help to pt7@ubs-icap.org and we will try get a response back and to update the help system.

Paratext 7 will not start after doing an automatic update (64bit Vista or 64bit XP only)

We need to bring your system to a point where Paratext 7 will start without the update install process starting. This will leave you with Paratext 7 as it was when you first installed.

  • Look for the folder named: C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Paratext\ParatextUpdate
(replace <username> with your Windows user name which you are logged in with when running Paratext)
  • Delete the folder "ParatextUpdate" and any contents.
  • Restart Paratext.

After Paratext is running, it will prompt you again shortly that there is an update ready to be installed (if you are connected to the Internet). This should be a newer one than the one you had received (with the reason for this problem fixed).

If the update still does not get applied properly, then ...

  • remove the ParatextUpdate folder once more, and download the following file directly:

If you are downloading with Internet Explorer, it may rename this file to .ZIP. Rename it back to .PUD

  • Then, double click on the ptw70_5029.PUD file to install it. An update process will be completed. When finished you should be able to start Paratext, and it will have been patched to the latest version (which does not have the 64bit update problem any more).

Blessings,

Nathan Miles
