Paratext 7 Release Announcement

Dear Paratext Users,

This is a general announcement to inform you that Paratext 7 has been released, and will be available for download from an updated Paratext website at http://paratext.ubs-translations.org. We can see by the number of registration requests we have already received that many people have already taken notice of the new site, and the release announcement posted there.

Access to Paratext 7 will require re-registration.The registration process involves two steps ... (please read)

Step 1

Completing the online registration form available at http://paratext.ubs-translations.org/user/register (this form is only available to view if you are not registered and have not presently logged in).

At this point you will receive an email message indicating that you have successfully created a new account on the Paratext website. This account will ultimately provide you with access to the software, and will record information about your Paratext registration details.

Step 2

Awaiting an administrative approval process (confirming your direct involvement in scripture translation or production activities).

We have discussed ways in which the second step can be completed in as efficient a mode as possible. For now we are planning to rapidly approve many Paratext 6.1 registrants who were approved within the past year by a UBS consultant, or some of our partner agencies.

We will be working at making the approval process as quick and easy as possible for brand new registrants also.

May we appeal to everyone for your patience as we process the significant number of requests we have already received. Even prior to the new website being enabled this past weekend, we had held back a fair number of Paratext 6.1 registration requests in order to approve these for Paratext 7 instead. We really appreciate your understanding. We’re a small team, and we do want to make the software available to you as soon as possible. We’ll work through requests as quick as we can.

You’ll find some other notes about registration at the following address http://paratext.ubs-translations.org/about/registration.

A VERY IMPORTANT NOTE (and a major reason for requiring re-registration).

Every user needs to have a unique registration name and registration code combination to use Paratext 7. It not acceptable to use one person's registration information on someone else’s computer. For Paratext 7 this issue has become critical. Using a registration name/code for more than one person will damage project history information, version control, and project sharing functionality. This is especially important for any use of the Internet based project sharing functionality. So, please make sure that every qualifying user of Paratext 7 is properly registered and that this registration information is applied correctly to their installation of Paratext.

We are also taking this registration opportunity to ensure that all "registration names" will work properly with Paratext 7 project sharing software. We want to ensure that there will not be any problems with transporting project data to and from the UBS Internet server, USB keys, or shared network drives. Once your Paratext registration process is complete (step 2), you will receive second email with your Paratext registration Name and Registration Code. At that time your website account will also be enabled to access additional areas such as software and resource downloads, and training materials.

New Paratext 7 users will need training by a trained support person, and the project(s) they work with will require proper configuration. Although Paratext 7 and Paratext 6.1 can co-exist on a computer and access the same project and resource texts, it is advisable to stop using 6.1, once Paratext 7 project sharing functionality has been properly configured for the project(s) the user is working with. It is also strongly recommended to plan your Paratext 7 migration process so that, whenever possible, all members of a team move to the new version concurrently.

We hope to add some additional information to the website on opt-in user discussion email list(s), and well as adding additional documentation and training materials as they are developed.

Thanks for your ongoing partnership!
