Simplified Editing

Paratext 7 introduces a new, more flexible, text editing window.

  • Merging of the Paratext 6 "unformatted" and "formatted" display options.
  • Pop-up marker selection list.
  • Marker validation.
  • Footnote and cross-reference editing window.
  • Insert Table form; Correct formatted table display.
  • Insert Figure/Illustration form with thumbnail display.
  • Selectable and customizable text views.

Text Collection Window

A new Text Collection window conserves space by allowing you to see one verse from several different project, or resource texts at the same time, within a single window.

  • Texts can be added, removed, and re-ordered within a collection set.
  • Text collection sets can be saved.
  • A 2-pane view allows for reviewing one text from the collection in a wider context.

Project Notes

Paratext 7 provides a new, simplified, project "Notes" facility. Notes can be used to record comments, queries, and discussions about the translation over the course of the project.

  • Note editing window.
  • Notes are connected to specific locations witin the text.
  • May contain threaded comments from other team members.
  • Set note status - To do, Reviewed, Resolved.
  • Review notes using the Notes Window or Notes Report tool.

Project History

Paratext 7 automatically maintains a history of changes made to a project text, and its associated configuration and settings files.

  • Review a history of changes to different books over time using the Project History window.
  • Selected books can be reverted back to an earlier state in the project history.
  • The Compare Texts tool is launched to show changes in the text between two entries in the project history.
  • "Snapshots" of the current project state can be created at any time, and labelled with a brief remark.
  • History information is transfered to team members in shared projects.

Project Sharing and Offsite Backup

Paratext 7 provides an exciting new opportunity to more easily share and update project texts among team members.

  • Send or receive project changes to one another using a USB or shared network drive, or via secure Internet server.
  • Options to configure the flow of text changes among team members.
  • Project Notes, history, and other project metadata are distributed by the Send/Receive process.
  • Projects stored on the Internet server receive the benefit of an automatic "offsite backup" for each connected team member.

Project Interlinearizer

The Paratext 7 Interlinear Tool creates an interlinear view, or auto-generated back translation, of any project text.

  • Display a translation text for the current verse, together with statistically guessed glosses in the language of a selected model text.
  • Update incorrect glosses.
  • Specify morphology informatin for the translation text.
  • Assists with adapting a text to a closely related language, or with consistently applying orthographic changes.

Formatted Draft Printing

Paratext 7 "Print Draft" tool will quickly produce a formatted draft output of one or more project books in PDF format.

  • Select from a series of basic options to control the appearance and layout of the formatted text (page size, margins, fonts, one or two columns, line spacing)
  • Optionally insert illustrations.
  • Footnotes, crosss-references, and running headers are managed automatically.
  • Simple and complex scripts are supported; left-to-right, or right-to-left.

Simplified Checking

Paratext 7 introduces a renewed collection of text checking tools.

  • All basic checks can be run on the current book, or a selected set of books, with a single command.
  • Types of elements found in project text "inventories" are marked as valid or invalid, simplifying check configuration.

Biblical Terms Tool

A new Biblical Terms tool assists Bible translators and consultants with the process of checking for consistency in renderings used for various Biblical words and concepts in the translated text.

  • Tool displays a table containing a list of Biblical terms, term category, major language gloss, and rendering given for the term in the text being reviewed.
  • References containing the currently-selected term, showing how each verse has been translated in the text being reviewed are displayed.
  • Manual editing of renderings.
  • New "Guess Renderings" function attempts to determine renderings for each term by applying a statistical comparison of the text being reviewed with the known renderings for each term in a model text.
  • Comparative texts can be displayed alongside the text being reviewed.
  • Optionally review Biblical Terms from a selected semantic domain.

Integrated Source Language Tools

The Source Language Tools are now available as an integrated Paratext 7 window.

  • SLT provides a series of tools for working with the Hebrew, Greek and Syriac source language texts, alongside of other text windows.
  • View the source text at the current verse location, together with an interlinear gloss and morphological analysis of the verse.
  • Words in the source text can be looked up in a collection of dictionaries and lexicons.
  • Powerful source text search tool.

Project Progress Tracking

Paratext 7 introduces a new Project Progress Tracking utility for helping teams to manage and monitor team progress internally, and for reporting on project progress to managers and other interested parties.

  • Define project scope.
  • Define project stages and track progress for each stage at book, chapter, or verse level.
  • Overall percent completion and estimated completion date are calculated.
  • Graphical and textual reports are generated.

Other Updates

  • A new text comparison window, where differences between projects, or changes between versions of the same text, can be presented in a dual-pane, or single-pane display.
  • An improved project "Restore" dialog, which provides the ability to see which files have changed, and review textual differences, before restoring on top of existing files.
  • Improved right-to-left script support with more natural cursor behavior, and correct rendering of special elements such as chapter/verse references.
  • A new "question-driven" help system with built in help authoring tool and support for content localization.
    • Step-by-step guides for sequential dialogues.
    • Help updates received from the Internet.
